Vyn Notes ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Vyn Notes Chrome Extension and the website at vynnotes.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights around it.

Short version: We collect only what's needed to run the service. We never sell your data. Your notes and generated content are stored in your account and only accessible to you.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Vyn Notes:

Account information — your email address, used to create and identify your account via Firebase Authentication.
YouTube video URLs — the URL of the video you ask us to process. We use this to fetch the transcript and generate your notes.
Generated content — notes, flashcards, and quizzes you generate are stored in your Library so you can access them later.
Usage history — a log of which videos you have processed and when, used to display your history and calculate your credit balance.
Credit and subscription data — your current plan, credit balance, and subscription status.
Payment information — handled entirely by LemonSqueezy. We never see or store your card details.

We do not collect:

Your browsing history or any YouTube activity beyond the video you explicitly submit
Any data from pages you visit outside of YouTube watch pages
Your name, address, or any other personal information beyond your email

2. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Vyn Notes Chrome Extension requests the following permissions and uses them strictly as described:

activeTab — to read the URL and title of the YouTube video you are currently watching, only when you interact with the extension panel.
storage — to save your login session and settings locally in your browser (e.g., backend URL, auth token). This data never leaves your device except as needed to authenticate with our backend.
identity — used to support the Firebase Authentication login flow.
host permissions for youtube.com — to inject the Vyn Notes panel into YouTube watch pages.
host permissions for our backend API — to send video data to our server for processing.

We do not use any extension permission to collect data in the background or on pages unrelated to the Vyn Notes panel.

3. How We Use Your Information

To generate notes, flashcards, and quizzes from the YouTube videos you submit
To store and retrieve your Library of saved content
To manage your account, credit balance, and subscription plan
To prevent abuse via rate limiting
To send you transactional emails related to your subscription (via LemonSqueezy)

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose not listed above.

4. Third-Party Services

Vyn Notes relies on the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

Firebase / Google — user authentication and Firestore database storage. Firebase Privacy Policy

5. Data Storage and Security

Your account data and Library content are stored in Google Firestore, located in the United States. We use Firebase Authentication tokens to verify every request to our backend — no request is processed without a valid authenticated session.

Generated content is cached on our server to avoid re-charging you for the same video. Cache files are stored by video ID and do not contain any personally identifiable information.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all of your personal data — including your Library, usage history, and account record — is permanently deleted from Firestore immediately. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile section in the Vyn Notes Library page.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you (your Library and usage history are visible in-app)
Delete your account and all associated data at any time, directly in the app
Contact us to request a copy of your data or ask any privacy-related questions

8. Children's Privacy

Vyn Notes is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Vyn Notes after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
